A Call for Hope: Help Save the Life of a Young Member of Our Community

A young member of our Holy Virgin Community of San Francisco is quietly fighting one of the hardest battles of his life.

He has End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and must undergo dialysis three times each week—treatments that are time-consuming, physically exhausting, and deeply limiting. Despite his strength and perseverance, dialysis is only a bridge. He urgently needs a kidney transplant.

He is currently on the deceased-donor transplant list. But the wait can take many years—time he simply may not have.

His best chance for a long, healthy life is through a living kidney donor.

You Can Help — By Becoming a Donor, Spreading the Word, or Donating

1. Consider Becoming a Living Kidney Donor

A living donor offers the best possible outcome:

  • Longer-lasting kidney function

  • Lower rejection rates

  • Shorter recovery time for the patient

He is O Positive (O+), so a potential donor must also have O+ or O- blood type. After confirming blood type compatibility, a donor would undergo medical screenings to ensure a safe and successful match.

The donor’s costs are fully covered by the recipient’s insurance. Donors receive detailed medical guidance, and most are able to return to normal daily activities within weeks.

2. Spread the Word

Even if you cannot be a donor, you can still help save a life by sharing his story with:

  • Friends and family

  • Your workplace or community groups

  • Social networks

  • Anyone who might consider stepping forward

Every share widens the circle of hope and increases the chance of finding a match.

3. Support the Family’s Urgent Financial Needs

While he waits for a match locally, his best chance is to get listed at multiple transplant centers around the country. Each additional region increases the likelihood of finding a compatible donor.

But this effort comes with substantial financial strain.

Needs Include:

  • Travel to transplant centers nationwide

  • Extended stays near hospitals

  • Airbnb-style accommodations with a kitchen due to strict dietary requirements—hotel rooms are not a viable option

  • Transportation and caregiver expenses, as he must travel with a guardian

Your financial gift will help him access more transplant centers, dramatically improving his chances of receiving a life-saving kidney. Please consider giving: DONATE.
